The years he spent training and working in Florence and Carrara inform Jonathan Loxley’s work.  He has exhibited throughout Europe and has executed several prestigious commissions.  He is inspired by the challenge of the physical energy and commitment required to deal with stone, and enjoys the continuing journey of his relationship with the natural material.  Jonathan’s understanding of the geometry of form and structure results in poised, graceful sculptures imbued with a sense of stillness.  Their strength, contemplative nature and powerful presence make them dramatic focal points for the garden.

“I work in stone because for me it is the perfect material for dreaming and holds no pre-defined shapes within it and therefore no human interaction, apart from its extraction from the landscape.  For me the stone is a mirror, a nebulous void that searches to see what it can make of me, and therefore carves its shape and meaning from my own void.  In this way, I feel it is the closest I will ever be to being allowed to spy on the craft of the universe”.
