Abstract Sculpture in Stone

Stone has a dense composite structure, made from plants, minerals and invertebrates over many thousands of years. The variety and beauty of its colours and striations form the bones of the landscape and contribute to its identity. Its different characteristics give stone ‘personality’, which appeals to sculptors.

Sculptors work in granite, Italian marble and many stones found in Great Britain and Europe, including Hoptonwood, Ancaster, Kilkenny and Portland limestones. Stones from India, Africa and South America are growing in popularity with sculptors.
